Executive communication coaching

Storytelling & leadership presence. A coaching path led by communication expert and author John Bowe, for leaders who are judged not only by what they know, but by how well they communicate it.

The approach

John’s approach differs from traditional speech or presentation training. Rather than focusing on “confidence” and performance techniques, he starts by teaching the critical skill of distilling core messages to their essence. After helping executives think more clearly about their audience and organize their message, he refines delivery and storytelling so leaders communicate with greater authority, credibility and impact.

Depending on a leader’s goals, engagements fall into one of three areas.

Speech & presentation coaching

Typical engagement: 2–3 virtual sessions plus between-session support

Built around a real upcoming meeting, pitch, presentation or speaking opportunity. It begins with John’s communication framework and an assessment of the audience, objectives and any existing materials.

Session 1: Discovery & strategy
The purpose, audience, key messages and desired outcomes, and a clear structure to achieve them. Between sessions, John refines the talk track, strengthens the narrative and improves supporting materials.

Session 2: Rehearsal & refinement
Focus shifts to delivery: pacing, timing, transitions and overall effectiveness, while the message keeps improving.

Session 3: Application & reinforcement (optional)
Repeat the process for another upcoming presentation. Clients leave with a stronger presentation and a framework they can reuse.

High-stakes event coaching

Typical engagement: customized, virtual, in-person and intensive support

For critical moments such as investor presentations, capital raises, IPO roadshows, TED-style talks, keynotes and multi-speaker events. John’s philosophy is simple: the content comes first. The talk track must be clear, compelling and pared to essentials before attention turns to slides, rehearsal or delivery. Coaching then expands to voice, pacing, timing, body language and flow, from several days of preparation to longer partnerships with writing, editing, rehearsal and in-person event support.

Executive presence & communication development

Typical engagement: customized, virtual, in-person and intensive support

John’s approach to executive presence is rooted in meaning and genuine authority rather than projected confidence. Each engagement starts with a brief diagnostic and, where possible, recorded communication samples to set a baseline. Homework is light and targeted.

Phase 1: What not to say
Eliminate habits that undermine authority, such as hedging, over-explaining and unstructured thinking.

Phase 2: What to say
Develop concise, audience-centered language for updates, summaries, recommendations and responses.

Phase 3: How to say it
Timing and conversational leadership: when to speak, when to listen, how to interrupt, how to close a discussion, and when silence is more powerful.

Phase 4: How to say it under pressure
Tone, pacing, composure and credibility in high-pressure situations.

Clients apply each principle to real interactions and report back throughout. The program ends with a final assessment and, where applicable, a comparison of recorded samples against the original benchmarks.
